A visitation to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, May 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, 1419 Bass Road, Macon, Georgia.
Born in Daytona Beach, Florida, to the late Edgar and Cecelia Koch, Richard lived a full and joyful life, guided by deep faith, unwavering integrity, and a profound commitment to his family and community. He graduated from the University of Florida and proudly served in the United States Air Force, where he rose to the rank of Captain.
After his service, Richard built a distinguished career as the owner of Medical Business Consultants, where he earned the deep respect of colleagues, clients, and the medical community. As an Enrolled Agent, he specialized in assisting doctors helping them navigate the complexities of their profession. Richard was incredibly dedicated to his work, always going above and beyond to ensure his clients received expert guidance. Even after his retirement and after his diagnosis, he continued to help a select group of clients with their taxes, a testament to his passion for his work and his genuine desire to help others. His professionalism, reliability, and unwavering commitment made him a trusted advisor to many.
In his personal life, Richard was a man of many passions. He was a lifelong music lover with a playlist for every mood and era—and he wasn’t shy about turning up the volume when a favorite song came on. His enthusiasm for cars was contagious; a proud member of the Mercedes Car Club, Richard could often be found at car shows, under the hood of a vehicle, or enjoying a drive on a sunny day. Weekends often saw him on the golf course, relishing a good round with friends or enjoying the solitude of the fairway. He was also an avid bowler and basketball enthusiast, always staying active and engaged.
Above all, Richard was a family man. He shared 56 wonderful years with the love of his life, Gloria Watson Koch. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, love, and music. Richard was a devoted father to Melanie Koch (Peter) Wilson of Macon and Jason (Bailey) Koch of Woodstock, and a proud grandfather to Watson and Zoey Koch. His love for his family was unwavering, and he always made time to be present for those he cared about. He also cherished his “grand-dogs,” Pickles and Red, who brought him endless joy.
A longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Richard lived his faith quietly through acts of kindness, generosity, and honesty. He firmly believed in doing the right thing, even when no one was looking, and his integrity was a guiding force in his personal and professional life.
Richard's legacy is one of service, commitment, and love. Whether it was helping doctors navigate their professional challenges, sharing a round of golf with a friend, or simply offering a listening ear to a loved one, Richard was always there to support those around him. His impact on his community and his family will be remembered with love and gratitude.
