OBITUARIO

Rosa DiVenuto Shaheen

10 junio , 192615 junio , 2021

Rosa DiVenuto Shaheen, 95, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2021. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Scott Winchell officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, North Gate. A Rosary will be said on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, 1419 Bass Road in Macon.

Rosa was born in Macon to the late Enrico DiVenuto and Santina Cominotto DiVenuto. She attended A.L. Miller High School and Mercer University. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Louis Joseph Shaheen, Sr. who she met at a USO dance in the basement of St. Joseph Church after WW2. Rosa and Louie were happily married for 55 years and celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in that same church basement where they first met. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Henry DiVenuto and her sister, Marcella DiVenuto Wood.

Rosa is survived by her four children and their spouses. Louis Joseph Jr. (Joey) and Carrie Shaheen of Tampa, FL; Susan and Jack Harshbarger of Dahlonega, GA; Janet and Morgan Wood of Macon, GA; and Tina Marie Shaheen, of Macon, GA; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. There was never any doubt that Rosa considered her family her greatest treasure, and there was never a dull moment in their household with fun loving parents. Since she was a first generation child in America, she knew the key to success was a good education and she drilled that into her children, students, and later her grandchildren & great grands. Rosa was proud that her hard work paid off and took full credit for producing a lawyer, 6 teachers, 2 anesthetists, an actuary, an engineer and two Eagle Scouts.

Rosa enjoyed people, great jokes, dancing, Notre Dame football, playing the piano with great grandchildren and laughing a lot. She was blessed with lifelong friends from childhood, church, her clubs, and the wonderful families of the children that she taught in kindergarten for 25 years at St. Joseph School where she was affectionately known as “Miss Machine”. Visiting with her former students at church and keeping up with their lives brought her great joy. She volunteered for many years at St. Joseph Church with youth groups, Cub Scouts, Silver Tops senior dances, sending cards to church members, leading tours at St. Joseph Church and working as a Cherry Blossom volunteer. She was honored to be a part of the Macon Woman’s Club and served as President for two terms. Over the years Rosa received various awards for dedicated service including the Francis DeSales Award from Mt. de Sales Academy and the Gartland Service Award from the Catholic Diocese of Savannah. She lived a great life, still cruising the world in her nineties, and enjoying her wonderful friends. Who could ask for more?

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Joseph Church, St. Joseph School, Mt. de Sales Academy, or the charity of your choice in her honor.

It was with sadness that I learned of the passing of dear, sweet Rosa. I had just wished her a happy birthday on her Facebook Timeline & the next thing I knew she had gone on to glory. Rosa & my beloved mother were such dear forever friends. After Mama passed in '98, Rosa would send me the kindest notes letting me know she was thinking of me + sharing a memory of my mom. I know they had a lot of catching up to do.

Whenever I must bid farewell to one I've treasured, I take comfort in this: Because of the promise of eternal life, we will all be reunited again one day. My thoughts & prayers are with the Shaheen family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of my days in Rosa's kindergarten class! I would see her alot at Kroger we'd hug and she would always tell me a kindergarten story. I know heaven has gained an angel. I'm so sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers are for you and your family. Lynn Thomas Landrum

Mrs. Shaheen was one of a kind. She taught all 3 of the Deep boys in kindergarten and remained a great family friend. She will be truly missed.

Heaven’s gates are open wide to receive their newest angel. Louis and a host of family and friends are waiting to receive her. We can only rejoice that she is with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, and with those who have loved her. We, the many who are left behind and who were blessed to have known her, will remember that wonderful laugh, the indomitable spirit, the gift of her presence, the love she shared with so many - especially her kindergarten kids. So, dear Rosa, fly away, fly away home, knowing you will be welcomed home but that you will be missed.

Rosa was a delightful friend of many years and I loved her very much. Her Mother and brother ran a store and I heard many happy stories about her life growing up. She was a delight and one of the happiest people I have ever known. She will be truly missed but is with Lou and her wonderful family. We will miss you do much.

Dearest Shaheen Family,

My condolences to each of you in the loss of our Dear, Rosa. Ms. Rosa was one of the most delightful women I have ever been blessed to know. My late husband and I knew her and Louis from St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was witty, bright, and always so vibrant. Her smile was contagious and she was a total package of joy. Our special place to "bump" into each other besides mass, was at our Kroger Store on Forsyth Rd. Sometimes I would come in Kroger to shop and I would hear Ms. Rosa's laugh and her talking to someone in the store, and I would find myself gravitating towards where she was just to be near her. She told me one time "Susan, you know why I love you so much? No, Ms. Rosa Why? I would ask? Because you have always been so good to my Billy (my late husband whom she loved.")

May the angels lead her into paradise and take her to the holy city Jerusalem. Rest in peace dear, friend. I will miss and love you always.

Your mother was a very special lady who had a beautiful smile and a heart of gold. I will never forget on the morning my father passed, that she and your father were the first friends my mother called and they were the first to come to our home to offer their condolences, love and support to our family. She was an angel on earth and is now one in heaven.
Love, thoughts and prayers to all your family

Your mother was one of the finest, happiest people I have ever known. She was the example of a dedicated teacher who loved her students dearly that I have always tried to follow. Her kindnesses to me and my family will always be remembered. What a great lady! We will all miss her. Prayers to go out all of you!
Love,

MiMama was always so special to me and will continue to be in my heart forever. She was like a second grandmother to me as I grew up spending many days and nights playing at her home with my cousin and her other grandchildren. I can still remember playing in her basement and backyard like it was yesterday. After my own Granny passed, MiMama was always there to give me the love and affection that only a grandma can. Now, as an adult, she always showered my own children with her love whom she had only met a few times. My heart hurts with her passing, but I know she is looking down upon us all smiling, laughing, dancing and having a great time just as she always did. Until we see you again MiMama, hugs and kisses from Rosy and family.
