
MACON – Virginia Bateman Comer, of 5300 Zebulon Road, died Friday, January 7, 2011 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 14, 2011 at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street, with Dr. William W. Oliver officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery will be private. The family will meet friends from 1 p.m. to service time on Friday at the funeral home. They suggest that those who wish may make memorial contributions to the charity of their choice.
Mrs. Comer, wife of the late Hugh Moss Comer, was a lifelong resident of Macon and was the daughter of the late Clifford Harris and Louise Morris Bateman. She was a homemaker and a member of Vineville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Comer was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Hugenauts Society of Middle Georgia. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Comer Avary and by her son, Donald D. Comer.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Hugh Comer, II of Dallas, TX, Catharine Avary Johnson of St. Simons Island and Virginia Avary Kittell of Essex, Vermont; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Betty B. Chapman of Miami, FL; several nieces and nephews.
