

JONES, COUNTY – Wayne Edward Johnson, Sr. passed away Friday, August 13, 2010 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, August 17, 2010 in the Chapel at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Rev. John Irwin and Rev. Wayne McDonald will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Cherry Street. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the Al Sihah Transportation Fund or to the Shriners’ Hospital, 222 Mecca Drive, Macon GA 31206.
Wayne was the son of the late Edward Franklin Johnson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Gonzales. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in United States Navy and was retired from the Navy Reserves. He was employed with Chris R. Sheridan Company. He was a member of Pitts Chapel Methodist Church. He was a mason and a member of the Mabel Lodge #255 F & AM and a dual member of Jeffersonville Lodge #133 F & AM, a member of the Scottish Rite 32nd Degree. He was a member of Al Sihah Shrine Temple and the Legion of Honor and a past commander (2001), a member of Taylor County Shrine Club. He was a member of Sons of the Confederacy/Gen. Edward Dorr Tracy Jr. Camp #18 and a member of the 3rd Battalion Co. B Mechanized Cavalry. He was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, chapter #345 and a past patron. Wayne was a Life Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America #0443.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Sharon Johnson (Jones County); his mother, Martha Bailey Johnson; his children: Wayne Johnson, Jr., Amanda Guthrie, Preston Johnson (Heather), Justin Johnson (Victoria) all of Jones County, Rebecca Upshaw (Jason) of McDonough, fourteen grandchildren: Caitlyn, Bradley, Bryan, Hannah, Meghan, Johnathan, Morgan, Josh, Jacob, Abigail, Harleigh, Landon, Vada, and Rylee; four sisters: Catherine Willis, Shirley Meyers, Elaine Horlock, and Linda Cuomo; a brother, Larry Johnson, and several nieces and nephews.
