

MACON – William Clay Thames, Sr., age 83, passed away at his home on Friday, May 25th. Funeral services will be held at Avondale Baptist Church on Monday, May 28th at 11 o’clock with burial in the church cemetery. Reverends Marty Watson and Foster Bell will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Avondale Baptist Church building fund, 6970 Cochran Field Road, Macon 31216.
Mr. Thames, son of the late Wallace and Fannie Ira Young Thames, was a lifelong resident of Macon. He was a master mechanic and maintenance department supervisor retired in 1989 from Armstrong World Industries. Mr. Thames was a member of Avondale Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a member of Rutland Lions Club, Rutland AARP and served on the Porter Ellis Community Center Board.
Mr. Thames is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Marian Bush Thames; his children, Terri Bush Thames (John) of Santa Cruz, CA, William Clay Thames, Jr. (Joan) of Mobile, AL and Thomas Thames (Charlotte) of Atlanta; his grandchildren, Andy, Amanda, Alex and Daniel Thames; his sisters, Beck Hudson and Lucille Clarke of Macon and many nieces and nephews.
