

Charles H. Beckman, at age 84, died peacefully in his sleep at Hartford Hospital on Dec. 18, 2021. A long-time resident of Madison of fifty-six years, he was the beloved husband of Marlene for 63 years. and precious Father of three children, Devon Eddy and husband Richard of Colchester, CT, Lee MacLeod and deceased husband , Angus of Hartsville, SC and David Beckman and wife Jamie of Higganum, CT as well as devoted Grandfather to Alyssa Eddy and Hudson Beckman.
He was born in Yale New Haven Hospital on January 21, 1937 to Charles and Florence Beckman, who lived in the Montowese section of North Haven, Ct. His late sister, Barbara Barnick preceeded him.
Loved by all, he had a delightful personality and lived by the words of Mother Theresa:
"Let anyone who comes to you go away feeling better and happier. They should see goodness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, for joy shows from the eyes, it appears when we speak and walk. It cannot be kept closed inside us. It reacts outside. Joy is very infectious."
At seventeen, Chuck joined the US Navy and served on the USS Gyatt. and the USS Shadwell in 1956. He studied Propulsion Engineering Systems at Long Beach State College in CA and later worked for 30 years at Electric Boat in Groton, CT as an engineer in the pump and propulsion division. He went on sea trials in the Nautilus submarine as it was tested under the ice cap in 1955 and in Italy, as well.
He was a founding member of Madison Alliance for Senior Tax Relief and was able to help secure a tax freeze for seniors in Madison.
Hockey, softball, competitive ballroom dancing and cooking were favorite hobbies. Friends and neighbors alike always looked forward to a delicious meal at his home that he would delightfully prepare. www.swan funeralhomemadison.com
