Frank Richard Wilde was born in Elmont, NY to Charles E Wilde and Margaret Milward Wilde on April 23, 1927. He was 94 years young when he passed away at the Conn Hospice in Branford Ct, on July 11, 2021.
Anyone who knew Frank, knew his love of baseball and basketball stretched from childhood through his times on the Sewanaka High School teams, to playing on the Kansas State Emporia College teams through to retirement, where he continued playing in the Madison Senior league teams through to his late eighties! His strong knowledge and recall of sports stats enabled him to successfully beat anyone with a smart phone!
His quick wit and cordial manner enabled him to succeed in life and in his career at Belwin Mills through to his retirement at North Atlantic Insurance Company. All who had the pleasure of knowing him would agree, he cared about each person he met and that endeared him to all.
Right out of high school, he answered the call of duty by enlisting in the Army and participating in cleanup and rebuilding of Germany after WW2. He was the “go to” person, always willing to share an answer on the many questions about life to home repair posed by his children, grandchildren or friends.
However, first and foremost, he was an amazing family man. In 1973, he and his wife, Joan, successfully merged their two families into one with seven children! Although he was not in all the children’s blood - he became a dear part of each spirit.
Each of their seven children, David Wilde, Barbara Wilde Terpening, Michael Wilde, Nancy Delahunt, Michael Delahunt, Peter Delahunt, Timothy Delahunt, rotated at his bed side in his last days. He is also survived by six grandchildren.
His family is comforted that he is now at peace and playing on the “All Star” team. They will be looking for him when he shows himself … when we hear a certain laugh; or see a door opened for another with sincere respect; or when an ear is given to a person’s troubles with feeling. But most especially when a group of men gather after a ballgame and chide each other about their performances.
There will be a private family memorial in his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, in his name.
