

George E. Laursen 95, a longtime resident of Madison, and recently of Evergreen Woods in North Branford, died peacefully on November 17, 2017. George was born on June 6, 1922 in Montclair, New Jersey to Laurits and Sophie Laursen. He was the devoted and loving husband of Mary (Grasso) Laursen for more than 66 years. George will be remembered for his dedicated love of family and friends, compassionate heart, his keen sense of humor, and the deep pride he held for his Danish heritage.
George was a graduate of the Stevens Institute of Technology, receiving his degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1950. George began his career as an Engineer for Standard Brands in Hoboken, New Jersey. In 1956, he joined Chesebrough-Pond’s, where he spent the next twenty-eight years, eventually retiring in 1984 as their Divisional Vice President of Manufacturing. After his retirement, George spent time traveling the world, wintering in Sanibel Island, FL, spending cherished time with his grandchildren, and enjoying morning swims at the YMCA, an activity he continued into his 90’s.
George was a WWII veteran, serving as a Sergeant in the Army Air Transport Command. He was a devoted member of the community and an avid volunteer, having served on the Board of Directors of the Valley Shore YMCA, the University Of New Haven Board Of Governors and numerous other community organizations. George was also a parishioner of St. Margaret Church and a longtime member of Clinton Country Club.
In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by his son Keith Laursen and wife Susan of Wallingford, CT, his grandson Kevin Laursen of Seattle, WA and his granddaughter Kelsey Laursen of Wallingford, CT. George was predeceased by his son, Kenneth Laursen and his sister, Evelyn Mitchell.
