Harold (Hal) Eugene Bingaman of Madison, Connecticut, formerly of Riverside, Connecticut, died peacefully at home on September 25, 2012. Hal was born in Mount Pleasant Mills, Pennsylvania to Maude and Stanley Bingaman. He served his country overseas after graduating from the Army Language School in Monterey, California with fluency in Hungarian. He graduated from Susquehanna University where he met his loving wife of 50 years, Helen. Hal began his business career as a trainee at Young and Rubicam in New York City and spent the majority of his career at American Home Products and Hertz Corporation where he served as Executive Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. His entrepreneurial spirit and independent streak led Hal to break from the corporate ranks to start his own successful company, Vertical Marketing, from which he retired. Prior to moving to Madison, Hal and Helen moved to Pebble Beach, California on the Monterey Peninsula, an area of the country that he loved and had always dreamed of enjoying in retirement. Hal was a very giving man and active in several organizations over the years including the Carmel Festival Arts Theater, All Saint’s Episcopal Church, and Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church. His friends and family will remember him most as a loving, devoted family man with a sharp wit, hearty laugh and warm heart. A proud wish he had for his obituary was for people to know that he was a gold card member of Costco. Most of all, Hal had the biggest heart and the most pride for his family. As an only child, his name would not have continued had he not met Helen. He leaves behind his wife, Helen; children, Peter, Adam, Jonathan and Amy; 13 grandchildren, Michael, Luke, Reilly, Avery, Spaulding, Sebastian, Catherine, Charlotte, Victoria, Alexa, Kate, Georgia, Baby Vitti; and granddog Leroy. It was his times with his family that were his happiest. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Madison Ambulance Association. A service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Riverside on Saturday, September 29 at 11:00.
