Kurt C. Lauritzen, 59, of Madison, CT, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 24, 2025. Born on August 25, 1966, in Waterbury, CT, Kurt moved to Madison in early childhood and remained a proud resident for most of his life.
Kurt graduated from Daniel Hand High School in 1985. He began his career as a bricklayer and stone mason, working alongside his close friend and mentor, Corky. In his 30s, after facing a serious illness, he discovered a talent for CAD design and worked for a local company, though he always sensed life had a different path in store for him. Following his recovery from Guillain-Barré syndrome—and with the encouragement of his friend Lou—Kurt returned to school at Goodwin College, earning his associate degree in respiratory care in 2013.
As a certified respiratory therapist, Kurt dedicated himself to helping others. He worked at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport, CT, and at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, where he had previously received treatment during his illness. He later joined Middlesex Hospital, where he was grateful to once again work alongside his mentor Lou. Most recently, Kurt cared for patients in long-term care at Waterbury Gardens in Waterbury, CT, and Village Green in Bristol, CT.
Kurt was preceded in death by his parents, Charline L. (Chasse) and Donald N. Lauritzen; his aunts Theresa Curtis, Colette Cosgrove, and Diane Belanger; his uncles Charles Curtis, Donald Cosgrove, Robert Lauritzen, and Kevin Lauritzen; his cousins Dennis Cosgrove and Nancy (Cosgrove) Sforza; and his beloved childhood friend, Dave.
He is survived by the love of his life, Christine E. Puciato of Madison, CT, and her children, Jeff and Jake Puciato; her parents Beryl and Pete Hancock of Shreveport, LA, and her sister Diane Cox also of Shreveport, LA. He is also survived by his sister, Lisa L. Lauritzen of Waltham, MA; his brother, Bruce N. Lauritzen of Hartford, CT; and his uncle Peter Belanger and his wife, Patty, of Wethersfield, CT. He is also survived by many cousins from the Curtis, Cosgrove, and Belanger families, as well as his nieces—Alexandra of Meriden, CT and Emily, Lauren, and Stella of Marietta, GA.
Kurt was a lifelong lover of camping—especially with Christine—and an enthusiastic fan of NASCAR, Ford Mustangs (including his first, a black Mustang GT at age 17), and his ever-growing collection of ball caps. Some of his happiest moments were spent watching NASCAR races in the camper with his closest friends, Matt and Ken. One of his greatest joys in life was being a godfather to Kelsey, Alexandra, and Stella.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours and a celebration of Kurt’s life on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 2:00–6:00 p.m. at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Road, Madison, CT.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kurt’s honor to GBS/CIDP Foundation International or the Connecticut Humane Society.
