

Thomas G. Dorrian, 93, died peacefully at home on August 26th 2014 after a long illness that he faced with grace and humor. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Miriam, and his ten children, James(Sharon), Thomas, Mary Jane(Chris), Brian(Linda), Daniel, Joseph(Kathy), Gerard(Patricia), Grace(Ken), Sarah(James), Raymond(Gail), his twenty four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Ann.
Thomas was born in Manhattan, NY on November 28th 1920 and had one brother, John, a sister Winifred and a beloved cousin Kitty. He served bravely during World War II as a tail gunner in the Army Air Force. In 1944 while flying on a mission over Holland his plane was shot down and he was captured and held as a POW in Germany for one year. After the war he joined the NYPD and retired as a Detective Sergeant after twenty years. He finished his working career as a Security Supervisor at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in NYC. After his retirement in 1985 he moved to Madison Ct. and spent many years enjoying friends, travel, tennis and most of all his family.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday August 28th from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Rd., Madison, CT. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Dominican Nuns at the Monastery of Our Lady of Grace in North Guilford, Ct or to the Special Olympics.
