Brent (or “brother from another mother and dad” or “Brenty” as I often called him) will always hold a special place in my heart, as he was such an important part of my life.  Our families were so close growing up. It was like having another mom, dad, brother, and sister. We were always together- playing in the pool or up at the school. Even after Stacy went away to college, it was always comforting to see Brent when I stopped by to say hi- many times he would be in the basement with his DJ gear- other times working on his car. It definitely feels like a part of my family is now missing. You will certainly be missed, Brenty! 

Brent and I had met through youth hockey - we quickly became friends, our parents became friends, and lifelong bonds were formed.  During those years, a few of us kids were nearly inseparable as hockey crew.  Memories have been flooding in all week, which have brought smiles & laughs among the pain of loss.  Beyond the time spent on the ice, I will never forget the memories off the ice - the building (and quick destruction!) of the backyard fort, the late night skates around Lake Orion (with and without a leather recliner and call from the police!), weekends spent together at Frawley's house, and family ski trips together to Blue Mountain, to name a few.  Brent had a unique personality and sense of humor that I will miss - he could always bring some light, smiles, or laughter into any situation.  Although we did not always stay in touch in our recent years, I have always regarded Brent as a true friend, and looked forward to reconnecting whenever we could.  I am really going to miss him, but also extremely glad to have had the opportunity to be his friend and create memories together.  I am going to always look back at those memories with a smile, and knowing Brent, most likely a laugh too.  My love, thoughts, and condolences go out to Chiles' family.  Rest in peace, my friend - you are missed deeply.

  I remember my younger days with Brent and how much fun we had.  We use to ride our bikes around town, whether it was a boys adventure or to chase some girls.  Our bike rides also consisted of going to Orion Market to get candy and pop, but one day when we came out of the party store our bikes were gone!  After walking back to Brent's house, Mrs. Chiles called the cops so we could make a police report.  The cop made us sit in the back of his car while he asked us questions.  We got a kick out of having to sit in the cop car.  Now I can say the first and only time I’ve been in the back of a cop car was with Brent! 
  In middle school we would always sit together at the lunch table and we had some of the most imaginative conversations! Oh the laughs we had.  I can still hear his laugh now... Brent Chiles will be deeply missed and I’m glad he was a part of my life.

Sending so much love to the Chiles family for the loss of Brent. Brent’s sister Stacy babysat my younger brother and me. Otis and Judy were practically my second parents. Brent was like my slightly more good looking brother! The Pine Tree Elementary crew at Scripps Middle School consisted of Brent, TJ DeGeorge, Charlie Peterson, and me; and we had such wonderfully reminiscent times together whether playing on boats or riding bikes around town! Having Brent as my best friend through all those early childhood developmental years certainly shaped who I have become today and I am very thankful for all the fond memories that I have of our time together, whether it was discovering how to order pay per view on our parents cable boxes and then trying to explain away the charges on the bill as just an attempt to order “wrestling” and accidentally ordering something even less appropriate, or the amazing summer lake parties in middle school where Kirsten Thulin (and her family) also helped carry the burden of all us rambunctious middle schoolers running amok on Lake Orion. Brent and I raced BMX bikes thanks to the influence of Travis Lowe, started playing Basketball America roller hockey and then upgraded to ice hockey thanks to the influence of TJ and eventually played varsity hockey together for the first two years of high school. After that, we lost touch some, but whenever we ran into each other, it was always great to see him and he was always fun and happy. We made such unforgettable memories together and Brent will be missed greatly. 

Today I found out that one of my best friends Brent Chiles had passed. Even though we kinda grew apart over the last few years I still loved ya like a brother. You were there and helped me through some of the toughest times in my life. And we sure did have some fun crazy times too.  You were an excellent guy and a great friend. Rest in peace brother. Miss ya


Our family has known Brent since he was in 1st grade with our son Ross. Brent was like another son to us and the boys spent every minute of summer vacation on Lake Orion tubing, wake boarding and swing off the rope into the water. He was always a happy kid and open to any adventure. He will be missed!

I worked with Brent at the Palace on and off for seven years. He had a unique ability to relate to everyone in our department and make them feel welcome. Working with him was always an adventure, and I'll always remember the sense of humor and care he brought forth. It's been a long time since we worked together, but I'm glad to have known Brent, and I'm so sorry to hear of his passing.

Brent was a big part of my developmental years. We first met at Ross Mabery’s end of the year pool party in 7th grade and quickly grew from teenage crushes to friends. I’ll never forget the many bike rides into town, summer days on the boat, Mrs. Stalion’s 8th grade publication class, and 8th grade parties with Brent as the DJ (to this day I still can’t listen to some songs without thinking of Brent). Brent’s laid back demeanor and unique sense of humor made me and everyone around him feel at ease. When others passed judgement, Brent was kind, friendly, and accepting. Above all, Brent knew how to make me smile and laugh. Jesus and I love you, Brent. You will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

Brother, This was the last time I saw you at my birthday in 2018. Wish we could have seen each other more after the high school and college years, guess distance can do that. You are one of my best friends and probably gave me my most nicknames throughout life.  I’ll always laugh at those when I think of them. I’ll miss you dearly man.   We had so many good times and memories together.  Love always to you and your family.
