Colleen Maffetone-Siegel, a beloved mother from Port St. Lucie, Florida, peacefully passed away on November 11, 2023, at the remarkable age of 101. Her longevity was a testament to her zest for life and passion for ballroom dancing. She often attributed her age to her pioneer heritage, proudly stating, "Remember my family came from a long line of pioneer stock."
Born in Waverly, West Virginia, alongside the Ohio River, Colleen's love for swimming took root. She instilled this passion in her children and friends during trips to Michigan beaches, fostering a deep appreciation for water activities like boating and water skiing.
When an overseas business opportunity arose for our father, Colleen embraced the adventure. With four children in tow, she relocated to Bari, Italy, and later lived in Turkey. She immersed herself in each culture, becoming proficient in the local languages and even obtaining drivers licenses in both countries.
Colleen was an avid reader who kept herself up to date with world news, business, and the stock market. She instilled her love of reading and the importance of education in her children, ensuring that they too became avid readers. In addition to her active lifestyle, Colleen enjoyed working in real estate and insurance.
Colleen's passion for dancing kept her incredibly active until the last two years of her life. She will be deeply missed by her surviving children, Amy Machi, Michael Maffetone, Steven Maffetone, and Tim Maffetone, their significant others, as well as her six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her sister, Beatrice Byers.
Colleen Maffetone-Siegel was a true renaissance. "Mom, may you light up heaven's dance floor with your moves and your million-dollar smile!"
Colleen will be laid to rest at Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley, MI on Friday, December 15th at 11:00 am. The family has asked if you could kindly join them for prayers and a family eulogy at the cemetery before interment.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to The Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
