A lifelong resident of Michigan, David graduated from Warren High School in 1975 where he met the love of his life, Laura. After graduating he went on to work for Chrysler at the Sterling Stamping plant where he retired in 2008. In his retirement, David enjoyed gardening and doing yard work, building and painting different projects, cheering on the Detroit Lions, and telling “Dad” jokes, but his greatest joys in life came from spending time with his family and friends.
David was a devoted husband to his wife of nearly 50 years, Laura (nee Dougherty); a proud and loving father to his three children, Jason, Heather (Jason) Stauder, and John; and a cherished Grandfather/Puppa to Morgan (Sean) Quinn and Jayna. He also leaves behind two sisters, Denise (Victor) Felice, and Deanna (Robert) Lemasters; Brothers and Sisters in-laws, Michael (Cathy) Dougherty, Mark (Nancy) Dougherty, Janet Dougherty, Daniel (Millie) Dougherty, and Colleen (Mark) Mueller; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. David was preceded in death by his parents Frank (Bud) and Rose Marie (Mimi) Hawkes, his brother Dennis (Gayle) Hawkes, and sister Sandra Hawkes.
The loss of David will be felt by many, but the love he gave and memories shared will last forever.
A Celebration of Life for David will be held at a later date.
