George M. Beattie

George M. Beattie was born on Easter Sunday, April 8, 1928 in Hazel Park, Michigan. At the age of 85 he died on February 18, 2014 in Warren, Michigan. Beloved husband of Melba, loving father of Susan L. Cole, George F. (Karen), Steven M. (Cheryl), Lauren J. Banker, Lynn M. (Jim) Rothwell, David B., and the late Karen Campbell. Dear step-father of Steve Norris, Debra (Randy Cuff) Norris-Cuff, Linda (David Anderson) Norris Anderson, and the late David (Susan) Norris. George is also survived by his son-in-law Paul Campbell, 19 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. George was a lifetime resident of Oakland County and was very active with the Madison Heights Senior Center. He was a gymnastics instructor at the Eastside YMCA for many years and loved pitching fast pitch softball most of life on various teams. George was a U.S. Marine, a paratrooper in the Korean war, and a longtime reservist with the National Guard. He was very witty and had a great sense of humor. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until time of memorial service 3:00 p.m. at Edward Swanson & Son Funeral Home 30351 Dequindre, Madison Heights, Michigan 48071. Interment services with military honors will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery Holly, Michigan at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Disabled American Veterans.
