Lucille lived a long life surrounded by family and friends. She was raised in Hamtramck with her brothers Jerry (deceased) and Sylvester. Lucille Grudzien was the valedictorian of her graduating class at St. Florian High School in Hamtramck, MI. In 1952, she married her high school sweetheart Arthur (Stick) and became a Sticklinski. They celebrated 61 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2012.
Lucille attended Madonna college and earned a teaching certificate. Prior to having children, Lucille was a teacher at St. Florian’s. She was a stay at home mom for her children: Laverne, Trisha, and Tim. When her youngest entered high school, she began working at Madison Community Hospital in a variety of positions and remained there until her retirement.
Lucille loved being active. Stick and she traveled extensively visiting world’s fairs and expositions, taking family vacations, attending events, and playing cards. She loved playing bridge (once, twice, sometimes even three times a week) and developed deep friendships with her fellow bridge players. She enjoyed concerts and held annual tickets for Detroit Symphony Orchestra performances.
Family was the keystone of Lucille’s life. Whether it was family vacations up north with her brother Jerry, his wife Janice, and their kids Jeff, Julie, and Jody or annual family canoe trips with Laverne, Gary, Amy, and Trisha or travelling to California to spend time Tim, Mary, Kazia and Michael – it meant the world to her to be with family.
Lucille was an active member in St. Vincent Ferrer’s Catholic Church for over 50 years. Her Catholic faith sustained her and it was the key to who Lucille was. She was kind, compassionate, strong, and loving. She touched the lives of every person she met. What better way to honor Lucille than to be like her? The world will be a better place if we do.
