

Alice Hall Burnett, 97, of Madison Heights, passed away Monday, August 15, 2016 in Indian Harbour Beach, FL. Born March 1, 1919 in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late Harry Isaac and Eva Raikes Hall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey L. Burnett, brother, Warren E. Hall and sister, Doris H. Meade.
A devoted and loving mother and grandmother she is survived by her son, James Douglas Burnett and wife Lona of Satellite Beach, FL and her granddaughter, Shannon Burnett Cadden and her husband Shane of Winter Springs, FL. She will be sadly missed by her nephews and nieces; Wayne and Louise Hall, Diane Childress, Carolyn and Wayne Rash, Harry and Rhonda Hall, Charles and Peggy Meade, Alan and Debbie Meade, David Meade, Paul Meade, Jane and Jeff Denhardt, Jimmy Nettles and their families.
Mrs. Burnett was a member of Madison Heights Baptist Church for 90 years and lived a beautiful Christian life devoted to serving others.
In 1940 she married the love of her life, Aubrey Burnett, sharing 60 wonderful years together before his passing in August 2000.
Alice graduated from Madison Heights High School, Class of 1937, and Phillips Business College in 1938. Her first job was working for seven years in the office of Guggenheimer’s Dept. Store on Main Street, Lynchburg. Her banking career started in 1945 when she joined Lynchburg National Bank as vault custodian. Working her way up to Vice President for Personnel and Payroll, at Central Fidelity Bank (now Wells Fargo), she happily retired in 1978. She also was the bookkeeper for the family business.
During her lifetime she lived through the challenges of the Great Depression, and World War II while Aubrey was stationed in the South Pacific. Together they cared for their aging parents for many years.
In her retirement she enjoyed spending the winters in Florida with her family, becoming a world traveler, sewing and making doll clothes, gardening, making cakes and cookies for friends, and solving crossword puzzles while watching “Jeopardy”.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 22, 2016 at Madison Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Todd Blake, officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. The burial in Fort Hill Memorial Park will be private.
