
Alice Joan Wells, 72, of Monroe, died, Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of Donald Wayne Wells. Born January 13, 1941, in Harlan, KY, she was the daughter of the late John Dotson and the late Ida May Shortridge Dotson
Joan was a retired school teacher for the Wise County School Board and a member of Greenview Church of God, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. Joan was also a member of the National Education Association and president of the Women of the Church of God.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by one brother, Bob Dotson and one sister, Peggy Dotson.
In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by her son, Jason Wells and his wife June of Harrisonburg; her daughter, Tammy Layne and her husband Daryl of Monroe; two brothers, A.G. Dotson and his wife Sue of Port Charlotte, FL and Bill Dotson and his wife Joan of Indianapolis, IN; five grandchildren, Brittany Layne, Aaron Layne, Jesse Wells, Nathan Wells and Sarah Wells. Joan was also mom to numerous foster children. Joan will also be remembered by Christy May and her church family at Greenview Church of God.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Tammy Clark officiating. Interment will follow at White’s Cemetery in Monroe.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Friday, January 25, 2013, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
