

Born on October 4, 1930 in Westminster, Maryland, he was the son of the late Emory Woodson Layne and Irene Barbour Layne.
Aubrey retired from the Newport News Shipyard with over 35 years of service. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Amherst County where he enjoyed farming and driving a school bus for the Amherst County Public Schools. Aubrey enjoyed baseball and even coached his son’s little league baseball team. As a faithful man of God, Aubrey was a longtime member of both Parkview Baptist Church in Newport News and First Baptist Church of Monroe, where he taught Sunday School, was an usher, and a deacon at both churches. Every evening he could be found reading his bible and praying to his Lord and Savior. Aubrey was a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother who loved his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Lee Layne; brothers, Preston Layne, Warren Layne, and William Layne; and sisters, Ethel Layne and Clara Rothenberger.
In addition to his wife, Adella, he is survived by his three children, Aubrey Lee Layne, Jr. and wife Peggy, David Jefferson Layne and companion Lisa Bankston, and Brenda Layne Harris and husband Tim; six grandchildren, Christian Douglas Layne, Amanda Leigh Layne, Brandon Lee Layne, Mark Jefferson Layne and wife Cyndi, Timothy Allen Harris, Jr. and wife Andrea, and Sandy Layne Wilson and husband Matt; six great grandchildren, Vanessa, Elson, Mason, Adelyn, Oscar, and Emily; two brothers, Johnny Layne and wife Barbara and Doug Layne; sisters, Betty Kidd, Lois Hubbard, and Pat Nash and husband John; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Whitten Monelison Chapel, 3966 S. Amherst Highway, Madison Heights, VA 24572 and at other times at his daughter’s, Brenda Harris, residence.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, April 24, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Monroe, 139 Francis Avenue, Monroe, VA with Pastor Glenn Coleman officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Lynchburg.
