Dorothy Dot Bethel Hedges

Dot was born in Nelson County, August 22, 1929 to the late Samuel Preston Bethel and Susie Carter Bethel.

She was a retired teacher with Lynchburg City Schools after 36 years of service and was a member of Madison Heights Christian Church. Dot was also an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by seven children, Michael Riley of Fargo, ND, Scott Riley and his wife Belynda of Monroe, Julia Tyree of Rustburg, Betty Loving of Roseland, David Riley of Forest, Joe Hedges, Jr. and his wife Trish of Lynchburg and Deb Keenan and her husband Tim of Laurel, DE; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

One sister, Frances Lawrence and one daughter, Joni Hedges preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Madison Heights Christian Church with the Rev. George Harris officiating.

Interment will follow at the Jonesboro Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, June 1, 2011) at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence.
