Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the
righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that
love his appearing.
2 Timothy 4:6-7
Pastor Eugene Callahan Orme, 70, of Amherst passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at home with his family. Gene was born in Pennsuaken, N.J on May 22, 1951. In 1987, Gene joined his 4 brothers in an adventure and moved to Howardsville VA, where he used his love for construction to run New Creation Builders, a successful home building business.
Gene was known for his love of the Lord, and preaching God’s word was his greatest joy. He will be remembered by all as a man of unwavering faith and a passion for spreading the love of Jesus.
At 6’7, Gene was a big man with a big heart filled with his love for his family. He was unendingly proud of his children and grandchildren which he reminded them of often. Some of his greatest memories were watching his sons play baseball and then later in life, watching his grandsons play as well. He was at every game, cheering (yelling) for every kid on the team, not just his own.
An avid deer hunter, Gene always hoped he could hunt one last time. When his heath began to fail, he and his grandsons set up trail cameras and would watch videos of the animal life in the woods behind his home. Gene will also be remembered by his great big bear hugs, booming laugh, and great sense of humor.
Gene was a son of the late George and Dorothy Orme. In addition to Sally, his wife of 52 years, those left to cherish his memory include daughter Renee, and sons Joshua and John. “Pop Pop” will be greatly missed by his 7 grandchildren, Jacob Orme, Kyle Orme, Abby Orme, Peyton Orme, Alexis Beam, Emma Beam, and Bella Beam. His memory will be cherished by 4 brothers, George Orme Sr., William Orme Sr., Gary Orme, Wayne Orme, and sister Carol Griffith.
A celebration of life service will be conducted on March 23, 2022 at 2 pm at New Covenant Fellowship in Amherst, VA.
