Gene, lovingly known to his family as “Aubrey,” was a man whose heart was as full as the music he loved. He found deep joy in the legendary sounds of Ozzy Osbourne, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley, music that reflected his spirit and accompanied so many moments of his life. Aubrey cherished people and meaningful moments, and above all, he held his family and friends close, valuing those relationships more than anything else.
A devoted animal lover, he possessed a rare balance of tenderness and strength; a gentle, compassionate soul with the courage to stand firm and protect what he loved. Aubrey had an infectious warmth about him, effortlessly drawing people in with his kindness, humor, and open heart. A true social butterfly, he made others feel seen and welcome, turning ordinary moments into lasting memories. To know Aubrey was to feel joy, comfort, and genuine connection, and his presence left an unforgettable mark on everyone fortunate enough to share time with him.
In addition to his parents Aubrey was preceded in death by his grandparents Jesse Pugh and Flossie “Nanny” Pugh.
Those left cherish Aubrey’s memory include his loving, devoted mother Sandra Blevins; his daughters Candice Smith and Ashleigh Whelan; his grandchildren Aaliyah Williams, Donovan Hinton, Josiah Preston; nephews Tristan Gregory, Chanson Almond; his niece Madison Almond; his estranged sister Angela Almond; his aunts Wanda Tolley, Linda Coles, Lillie Mae Wade; his partner Michele DeMonte; and his close cousins Donna Burks, Clayton Wade.
