

Gordon Reynolds Campbell, Sr., 71, husband, father, PaPa and GaGa. God saw the road was getting tough, after fighting a battle with cancer and sent his angels to lift him up from his earthly home to his heavenly home. He is resting peacefully with his Lord! He was surrounded by his precious family, who he loved dearly, as they loved him and will surely miss him. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, PaPa, and friend to all who knew him.
He was retired from G.E.-Ericcson, was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp., and was a member of Eastbrook Baptist Church. Gordon was a former coach with Lynchburg Little League Baseball and Rustburg Dixie Youth Baseball and for many years worked the chains for Rutburg High School football games.
In addition to his parents, Lawson and Bethel Campbell, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd Campbell and Howard Campbell
Gordon was married to and is survived by the “love of his life”, Barbara Dunn Campbell for almost fifty years. He also leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving and devoted son, G.R. Campbell, Jr. and his wife, Tara; two grandsons, Lawson Hunter Campbell and Joshua Caleb Campbell, who was the apple of his eye; a “special granddaughter-in-heart”, Lauren Danielle Brown; three brothers, Kinkle Campbell (Gracie) and George Campbell, both of Lynchburg and Mack Campbell (Patricia) of Coleman Falls; five sisters, Erma Goff (Emmett) of Big Island, Bessie Childress (James) of Concord, Eunice Hawkins (Richard) of Evington, Lovie Phillips (Arnold) and Jean Hudson (Winston), both of Madison Heights; two sisters-in-law, Alice Campbell of Gladys and Faye Coleman of Lynchburg and many special friends and neighbors.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Walkup officiating. Interment will follow in Amherst Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Monday, April 12, 2010 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
