She was the daughter of the late Emmett Lewis Sale and the late Essie Coffey Sale. She was also the devoted wife of the late Channing Shelley Leckey.
Born in Roanoke, VA on June 12, 1929, she was raised by loving parents in Amherst County. She graduated from Amherst County High School and retired from General Electric/Ericsson where she enjoyed her work as an assembler and was blessed with treasured friendships. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Madison Heights, VA.
Helen was a remarkable lady whose life was marked by her steadfast faith in God, strong work ethic, integrity, grace, wisdom, and love and care for her family and friends. She was blessed with a quick wit which endeared her to even complete strangers with her unexpected responses which always brought a smile to others. To know her was to love her, and she and her sparkle will be truly missed.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her precious daughter, Cheryl Anne Leckey, who passed away at the age of eleven from bone cancer in 1977. What a joyous reunion they have shared! Helen was also preceded in death by all her siblings and their spouses: Evelyn Carter (Bill), twin brother, Hiram (Louise), Teeny Brockman (Barnes, Sr.), Virginia Sale, and Elmer Wayne Sale. Her mother-in-law, Lillian Snead (John) and father-in-law, Samuel Rutherford Leckey as well as sisters-in-law, Janice McCormick (Mack) and Linda Plogger (Richard) also preceded her in death.
Those remaining to cherish her memory include her son, Lewis Samuel Leckey of Lynchburg, VA, her daughter, Pamela Leckey Courtney and her husband, Rick of Monroe, VA, and beloved grandson, Graham Chandler Courtney of Amherst, VA. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
