Ira was born on March 31, 1933 in Lynchburg and was the daughter of the late Robert Cunningham and Lena Woodall Cunningham. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Jack McIvor and second husband Archer Anderson; son David McIvor and sister, June Wright.
Ira loved spending time in nature and especially enjoyed long walks, butterflies, cardinals and riding along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Ira’s greatest joy in life came from spending time with her family and helping others--she truly had a servant’s heart. She was a longtime member of Monroe United Methodist Church.
Ira is survived by her children Bob McIvor and his wife Marcie, Jackie Kent and her husband Joe; sisters Dorothy Cullen and Mary Lemon and her husband Jim; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, November 28 at 2:30 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Reverend Dr. David Turner officiating. Interment will follow at McIvor family cemetery in Monroe.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions in Ira’s name are asked to consider Bedford Hospice House, 1025 Turning Point Rd, Bedford, VA 24523. The family thanks them for the excellent care and compassion that they showed to Ira.
