He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Julia Tucker Meeks, his sons James “Jay” Iveland Meeks Jr. (Bronwyn) and Phillip Walker Meeks (Jessica), his daughter LeAnne Tucker Meeks (Kimberly), his brother Ronald “Ronnie” Dale Meeks (Betty), and his cherished grandchildren Tucker, Jacob, Ellie, and Clair. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Walker Meeks Sr. and Erna Doss Meeks, his brother Leon Walker Meeks Jr., and his sister Lillie Byrd Tomlin.
Jimmy served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1963 to 1966, including one tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization, a Master Mason at Amherst Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Throughout his life, Jimmy had a deep love for baseball and football, having played during his school years. He also enjoyed trout fishing, spending time with his family, and creating lasting memories. He took great pleasure in gazing at the Blue Ridge Mountains from his patio, mowing his lawn, and maintaining his home.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, August 5, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Whitten Monelison Chapel officiated by Rev. Robert Parks and Pastor Benjamin Smith.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
Interment will be held immediately following the service at the family cemetery located at 2736 Lexington Turnpike, Amherst, Va 24521.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
