Judy Gowen Chumbley, 74, of Madison Heights passed away peacefully Sunday, July 26, 2020, at the UVA Medical Center. She was the wife of Kenneth Lee Chumbley, who were happily married for over 53 years. Born May 25, 1946, in Lynchburg, she was the youngest daughter of the late Homer “Red” Garland Gowen, Jr. and the late Mary Thornhill Gowen.
Judy was the co-owner of Amherst Insurance Agency and retired as the principle agent in 2012.
In addition to her husband, Judy leaves behind her girls, Christy L. Chumbley and Kelly L. Chumbley; granddaughter, Kayleigh E. Chumbley; her spoiled rotten dogs, Romeo and Mischief; her sister, Evelyn Harmon; and a special cousin, Donna G. Mitchell.
The family would like to thank the ICU team at UVA Medical Center and Dr. Linda Duska for taking care of Judy in her last days.
There will be no services scheduled at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
