

Ken was born in Aruba, Netherlands West Indies, on December 30, 1932, where he grew up. He spent two years at Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia but returned to Aruba and graduated from Lago Community High School in 1951. He attended Drury College in Springfield, Missouri, and served two tours of duty with the United States army as a military policeman at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Fort Amador, Panama Canal Zone, and Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. After the army he made his career as a salesman, working for various companies which included Capitol Sewing Machine, American Greetings Corp., and Fort Hill Memorial Park in Lynchburg.
After he and his family moved to Virginia in 1972, Ken became a member of Monroe United Methodist Church where he was active in organizing the United Methodist Men, served as lay leader for a time, and later as a regular greeter and usher.
In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by two brothers, Clarence A. Work of Las Vegas, NV, and Keith F. Work of Dallas, TX, and a sister, Virginia Work Eastman of Irvine, CA.
He is survived by two daughters, Pamela Work Margolin and husband, Bob, of High Point, NC, and Patricia E. Work of Trinity, NC; two sons, Eugene E. Work and wife, Ann, of Woodland Hills, CA, and David A. Work, of Faulconerville, VA; two granddaughters, Sarah and Samantha Work, of Elon, VA; his youngest brother Dean M. Work of Encinitas, CA, a brother-in-law Phillips Eastman of Irvine, CA, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Ken is also survived by his former wife, Zelda Fields Work, of Madison Heights, and former daughter-in-law, Catherine Hedrick Work of Elon, VA.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, JUne 24, 2012 at Monroe United Methodist Church with the Rev. George S. Riggins, III officiating.
