Kyle Riley Baldwin, born August 7, 1938, of Madison Heights, Virginia, died peacefully in his sleep on December 30, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Florence (Dolly); siblings Neil and Dorothy; grandson Chad; numerous aunts, uncles, loved ones, and friends; and his beloved wife, Lucille. He is survived by his daughters, Dea Floyd and Donna Grace, from his first marriage; his second wife’s daughter, Wanda Moore; grandchildren Andrew Ure, Shane Godsey, and Megan Moore; great-grandchildren Trevor, Madison, Kinsey, Alana, and Brayden; nieces Theta, Debbie, Rhonda and Lisa; nephew Mark; many great- and great-great nieces and nephews; close friends Eugene Taliaferro and Clyde Minter; and his church family and fellow choir members at Temple Baptist Church. The family also wishes to acknowledge the staff at The Summit in Lynchburg, many of whom formed friendships with Kyle during his stay.
Kyle was a graduate of Madison Heights High School, class of 1956. For 38 years until retirement, Kyle could be seen throughout “Hogtown” while working for the Amherst County Service Authority, but many church-goers, nursing home residents, and shut-ins knew him for his beautiful voice as he shared his calling, singing for the Lord. He also witnessed by distributing over 50,000 of his personal testimony tracts of how the Lord had changed his life in 1980. In addition to singing, Kyle played the guitar, banjo, and mandolin until he was no longer able, but he never lost the ability or missed an opportunity to brighten people’s day with a joke or two. He undoubtedly will be making beautiful music with the angels, and probably sharing his unique sense of humor with them as well.
Services will be held at Temple Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Pete Sudlow officiating. A graveside service will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive visitors at Whitten Monelison Chapel in Madison Heights on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Flowers are welcome, but memorial contributions may also be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Camp Gideon in Amherst, Temple Baptist Church, or a charity of your choice.
