Mr. Lloyd A. Smith, Jr., 63, of Lynchburg, went to join his maker on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, after a short illness. He was born to the late Lloyd Smith, Sr. and Joyce Tucker Smith on January 24, 1957.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 36 years, Carrie Bates Smith; his older sister, Debbie Meeks; a special nephew and niece, Ricky Smith (Tanya) and Christy Sanchez, and numerous other extended family members.
Lloyd attended, and was a member of First United Methodist Church for most of his life. He became a member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church when First UMC and Chestnut Hill UMC merged. Lloyd often sang and played the piano as a service to First Church.
Lloyd graduated from Brookville High School in 1975, joined the USAF in November, 1978 and was honorably discharged in November, 1982. He returned home to Lynchburg and continued a long-distance relationship with Carrie (an active duty USAF member) until July 18, 1984, when they married at Fairview Christian Church in Lynchburg.
Lloyd held many jobs through-out his life, his last being an Auditor at B&W, Mt. Athos. His employment there lasted over 30 years.
As a young man, Lloyd made many friends easily and kept them through the years (most notably, Danny Sandifer and Judy Torian Martin). He loved his animals, more than most people and would want his loving companions mentioned; dogs, Scruffy and Poppy; cats; Zena, Blaze, and Freddy Mercury. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a local animal shelter.
