Manfred Lischer, 75, of Madison Heights passed away Monday, October 22, 2018, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of his late loving wife, Phyllis Jane Cyrus Lischer. Born November 22, 1942, in Pirmasens, Germany, he was the son of the late Jakob Lischer and the late Maria Dahler Lischer.
Manfred was a retired engineer for Southern Railway/ Norfolk and Southern Railroad. He served our country in the U.S. Army-82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. Manfred was a Mason-Lodge #39, in Lynchburg, VA, and 32 degree Scottish Rite Shriner Kazim in Roanoke.
In addition to his wife and parents, Manfred was preceded in death by three siblings, Englebert Lischer, Hildegard Sablionair and Irene Ernst.
Manfred is survived by his fiancée, Barbara Mayberry of Lynchburg; two siblings, Dieter Lischer of Lebach, Germany and Gerdraud Kowalewski of Syracuse, NY; and many nieces and nephews, including Sandra Faust of Madison Heights.
A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 26, 2018, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Mark Snowden officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Military Honors presented by the American Legion Post 16 and Masonic Rites given by Masonic Lodge #39.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
