Marion Darlene Dowdy

Born November 15, 1946, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Entsminger and Mary Entsminger.

She was a dedicated employee for 48 years with General Electric, Ericsson, and Genworth. She was also a dedicated member of Oakdale Baptist Church where she was a secretary, counter as well as choir member. She also volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed her luncheon with “Sassy Ladies” and her GE co-workers. She loved going shopping with her daughter and grand-daughters and loved to go to the beach with her children.

She is survived by two children; daughter Deborah D. Hix (Danny) of Hixburg and Dale Dowdy Jr. (Angie) of Amherst; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Tyree, Samantha Stratton (John), Susan Tyree, Will Hix (Lindsey), Brendan Dowdy, Amber Dudley (Jacob), Autumn Stinnett, Ashtyn Cunningham (Blaine); eight great grandchildren, Braydon, Brinkleigh, Anniston, Sawyer, Arabella Kay, Colter, Evie and Emersyn; a sister, Patsy Eades; special sister-in-law, Doris Lee (Lloyd); special niece Faith Coles (Ken) and their daughter Jessica Coles, and nephew Scott Lee (Priscilla) and their sons Hank and Nick.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 10:00 – 10:45 am at Whitten Monelison Chapel where a Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Meals on Wheels.
