Mildred Virginia Feury Huff, 99, formerly of Madison Heights, Virginia, passed away on August 10th at Bellaire at Stone Port in Harrisonburg, VA. Mildred’s husband, James “Bud” Huff predeceased her. She was born December 26, 1922 in Alleghany, VA and was the daughter of the late Hice Feury and Beulah Feury Sawyers and the step daughter of the late Dewey Sawyers.
Mildred married the love of her life “Bud” on May 30, 1949 and Bud’s favorite nickname for Mildred was “Sugarfoot.” They spent several years moving around Indiana and Ohio before settling in Madison Heights, VA, where they built their home, living there for almost 60 years.
Mildred worked various jobs during their first years of marriage, but when they moved to Madison Heights, she obtained employment with GE, worked there over twenty-five years, and retired as a supervisor. She had many interests including sewing, crocheting, gardening, cooking, and traveling. She and her husband traveled over much of the US and internationally to England, Germany, Japan, and Canada. She especially enjoyed her trip to Hawaii with Bud in 1991 for the Fiftieth Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, as Bud had been at Schoffield Barracks, HI in 1941.
Mildred was a member of the Appomattox Eastern Star and had been an Eastern Star member for over 60 years. She was also a member of Amelon UMC in Madison Heights, VA.
Mildred is survived by her nephew Zandy D. DePriest (Susan) and niece Shanda Carter. Randy DePriest, a nephew, predeceased her.
The family will receive friends at Whitten Funeral Home in Madison Heights, VA on August 16th from 10:30 to 11:30. An Eastern Star service will be conducted during visitation. Following visitation, a graveside service with the Pastor Marvin Busie officiating, will be held at Alleghany Memorial Park Mausoleum in Covington, Virginia at 2:30 PM.
