
She graduated from Randolph-Henry High School in Charlotte Court House, held a Licensed Practical Nurse licensure, earned her Bachelor's degree from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College (Now Randolph College),and a master's degree from Lynchburg College. She worked as a nurse in the Lynchburg area as well as an adjunct professor at Liberty University and Central Virginia Community College.
Nancy is survived by her sisters, Lois Hamlett Hudson (and Woody) of Rustburg, Mary Ann Hamlett Riley (and JT) of Garland, NC, Imogene Hamlett Scott of Lynchburg, Ida Mae “Polly” Hamlett Harper (and Marvin) of Madison Heights; her daughter Gaynell Harper Phelps (and Scott) of Concord; sons Keith Hamlett Harper (and Sandy) of Staunton, Russell Harper (and Julia) of Rockville, three grandchildren, April and Amber Harper of Staunton, and Samuel Phelps of Concord; and many nieces and nephews, including Kenneth Harper and Kathy Baker who were a tremendous blessing to her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Pearl Hamlett; brothers, George Wilson Hamlett, Russell Woodrow, Daniel Dewitt Hamlett, Isaac Hamlett, Royal Dean Hamlett and Charles Hamlett, and sisters: Ruth Hamlett Hamlette, Ruby Hamlett Lowe, Rachel (Esther) Hamlett McDonald, Eva Hamlett Harper, Mamie Hamlett Scott.
A memorial service will be held at Whitten Monelison Chapel on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 3:00 PM.
