Born July 26, 1927 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Gilbert Bowman Morcom and Grace Hudson Morcom and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Houston and Samuel Morcom and two sisters, Susie Gallier and Mary Curd. Mr. Morcom retired from the Lynchburg Foundry after more than thirty-nine years of service and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Monroe United Methodist Church.
Mr. Morcom loved spending time with his family and he enjoyed kart racing, NASCAR racing and camping in Myrtle Beach. He was an avid CB radio enthusiast. One of the things Otis will be remembered for was his detailed memory of the past and the memories he made with his beloved Kathleen.
Mr. Morcom is survived by two sons, Dennis Duff and wife Donna of Elon and O.G. Morcom, Jr. and wife Diane of Madison Heights; two daughters, Brenda Johnson and husband Willard of Lynchburg and Rhonda Morcom of Monroe; nine grandchildren; sixteen great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Mr. Morcom’s life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Ed Childress and the Rev. C. Randall Harlow officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and other times at Mr. Morcom’s residence.
