

Robert Kelly McGinnis, 85, of Bonita Springs, Florida passed away in his home on January 22 2012. Kelly was born on June 1, 1926 in Lynchburg, VA. He was the son of the late William G. McGinnis Sr. and the late Bessie Wood McGinnis.
In addition to his parents, Kelly was predeceased by two sisters Ruth M. Williams East, Elizabeth M. Coates and two brothers William G. McGinnis Jr. and Melvin Paul McGinnis.
Kelly is survived by his beloved wife Kathleen Cash McGinnis of 64 years. He is survived by three daughters, Gwendolyn M. Moses and husband Norman of Amherst, VA, Kelley Rae M. Quinlivan and husband Michael of Fairfield CT, and Barbara M. DeCuir of Bonita Springs, FL and a son Robert C. McGinnis and wife Holly of Richmond, VA. Also, eight grandchildren, Michael Moses, Brian Moses, David Moses, Sarah Q. Etters, Kevin Quinlivan, Cash DeCuir, Hannah McGinnis and Alyssa McGinnis. Also, seven great grandchildren, Rebecca Moses, Amanda Moses, Riley Moses, Reese Etters, Colin Etters, Levi Moses Alexis Moses and, two sisters Pauline M. Christian of Madison Heights, VA and Kathleen (Kitty) M. Poston of Vero Beach, FL and a number of Niece’s, Nephew’s and Cousin’s.
Kelly was a World War II Veteran, having served in the U. S. Navy from 1942 until 1946 when he was Honorably Discharged as a Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class. He was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Captain’s Citation, Navy Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Medal, Europe Africa Middle East Medal with 2 Bronze Battle Stars, Asiatic Pacific Medal with 6 Bronze Battle Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Medal with 1 Bronze Battle Star, and Combat Action Award Ribbon, He was a former member of Memorial Christian Church serving as both a Deacon and Elder and changed his membership to Madison Heights Christian Church when he moved from Lynchburg to Madison Heights, He also served as a Deacon and an Elder at Madison Heights Christian Church. Kelly moved to Bonita Springs, FL in 2001 and joined Naples Christian Church.
Kelly retired from Consumer Dornin-Adams as Vice President after 37 years of service. He was a member of The American Legion Post 16 in Lynchburg, V. F. W. Post 4254 in Bonita Springs, FL, Lynchburg South Moose Lodge 1727 and also a member of the National Association of Destroyer Veterans (Tin Can Sailors).
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton and the Rev. George Harris officiating. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2012 at the funeral home and other times at the home of his daughter, Gwen.
