
Born in Clifford, Virginia on October 17, 1928, he was a son of the late Stephen E. Campbell, Sr. and Mamie Campbell Campbell. He was a U. S. Army veteran who served in postwar Germany and in the 101st Airborne Division. He was a retired construction superintendent from C. L. Lewis. He was a founding member and past post commander of VFW Post 2515 in Amherst County, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monroe.
Mr. Campbell was a builder in the area for fifty years. Among his more notable efforts are the Thalhimer’s (now Macy’s) building at River Ridge Mall, Whitten Monelison Chapel in Madison Heights, and the Leggett home in Bedford County that was featured in Southern Living magazine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Edward, Bland, James, Ford, and Miner; and sisters Charlotte, Thelma, and Eva.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie Hartless Campbell; one daughter Pamela Campbell Aadland and her husband John; one grandson Matthew Aadland; and two brothers Franklin Campbell and Charlie Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 16, 2012 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Reverend Glynn Coleman. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. November 16, 2012 at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Monroe.
