Todd Marshall Abell, 52 of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, formerly of Crozet, Amherst, and Lynchburg, joined his father, Percy Marshall Abell in heaven on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 following a brief illness. In addition to his father, Percy, he was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Mary Jane Kirby Parrish and Hazel Marshall Abell; his grandfather, Filmore Gentry Lamb; and 2 aunts, Mary Ellen Abell Wyers and Gloria Lamb Baber. Survived by his beloved daughter Katherine Marshall Abell; loving mother Rebecca Abell Yancey and Stepfather LeRoy Yancey; grandfather, Cecil Parrish; 2 brothers Percy (Amy) and Scott (Crissie); nieces and nephews, Shawn (Randi), Porter, Kelsey, Emily, and a great-niece Paisley; 2 stepbrothers, Troy Yancey and Brandon Yancey; and a step-sister Tara Yancey Harrison. Todd is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Todd was a loving father, son, and brother. He was a friend to many and never met a stranger. Todd grew up with God as the center of the home and has been a lifelong believer of Christ. He was a proud 1989 Lynchburg College (University of Lynchburg) graduate and member of the LC Athletic Hall of Fame. A four- year starter Todd received the Athlete of the Year Award as a Junior and went on to be drafted by the Texas Rangers. He spent two years in the Rangers farm system. His love of athletics led him into a career as a golf professional, earning his PGA card was a defining and very proud accomplishment for Todd and his family. Todd went on to share his love of sports by teaching and coaching baseball in the Central Virginia area over 20 years. Most recently, Todd realized a lifelong dream of living at the beach. He spent the last four years in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Family gatherings and golf outings with his brothers were some of his favorite things that were never complete without discussing childhood memories and some friendly competitive banter with his brothers. Always a proud father of his beautiful daughter Katie who recently celebrated her graduation from James Madison University and her successful employment at OrthoVirginia. His family is heartbroken with their loss; he will be missed greatly and will live on through his family. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
