It is with great sorrow that the family of Lee Cobb announces his unexpected passing on December 25th, 2020. Lee was born in Rocky Mount, NC August 10th, 1945 and was the eldest son of Hilda and P.G. Cobb, Jr.
Lee will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Karen, and his two children, Vaden Matthew and his wife Amy, Catherine Cobb Bolling and her husband Derek, and his three grandchildren, Grace, Maggie, and Truman, and his two brothers, Col James Cobb USMC (Ret), Lt Col Carl Cobb USMC (Ret) and their families.
Lee graduated from East Carolina University in 1967 on a full football scholarship, and earned a commission that same year as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from The Basic School in class 6/67 in Quantico, VA and was deployed to Vietnam in the 2nd Battalion 9th Marines. Lieutenant Cobb was awarded the Purple Heart after being gravely wounded in combat and subsequently retired from the USMC. Lee then embarked on a successful career in economic development in various regions throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and was revered by the business community and his colleagues.
Throughout his career he was involved in many charitable organizations such as Kiwanis, Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW), Marine Corps League Detachment 759, and the Salem Veterans Administration (VA) hospital.
Above all, Lee was always a man of honor and integrity.
Due to Covid-19, the family is planning a memorial service, which will be announced at a later date.
