

William (Billy) Grant Mayes, 71, of Monroe passed away suddenly Friday, May 13, 2016, at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Vivian Crowder Mayes. Born August 10, 1944, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Thomas Walker Mayes and the late Josephine Elva Harper Sexton.
Billy was an electrician for Southern Air, where he served for 16 years.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Jackson and Inez Woodruff.
In addition to his wife, Billy is survived by his daughter, Monica Mayes Long and her husband Brian of Ruther Glen; four grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Evans, George Henry Evans, Jr. and his wife Brandi, Rebekah Anne Evans with John Pedraza and his children, Isaiah Pedraza and Raquel Pedraza, and Breanna Joelle Burns; one step-grandson, Daniel Long; and nieces and nephews, including, Johnnie, Joseph, Cynthia and Steve.
A funeral service will be conducted 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Doug Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive family and friends 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence.
