
Born March 26, 1942, in Portsmouth, he was a son of the late William Woodrow Johnson and Mae Araminta White Johnson Sehl.
Mr. Johnson was retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Hill City Masonic Lodge #183, A.F. & A.M., Past Master of Mackey Lodge #69, and a member of Kazim Shrine (Klown Unit).
He served on the Board of Directors of the Gladstone Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service.
Survivors also include two children, Timothy Wayne Johnson of Altavista, and Debra J. Hubbard (Mitch) of Forest; two step-children, Tim Short (Lori) of VA Beach, and Chris Short of Coplay, PA; brother, F. Russ Johnson (Angie), and sister, Jacqueline J. Scarbro (Jim), both of Chesapeake; six grandchildren, Gregory Scott Johnson (Whitney), Ashley Thurman, Noah Johnson, Mary Grace Johnson, Andrew Short, Makenzie Short, great grandchild, Camryn Thurman, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., following the visitation at the funeral home, by the Rev. Judy Parrish.
