
Born November 26, 1925 in Mt. Pleasant, VA and was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth V. Mays; his parents William Earnest Mays and Mary Jane Thompson Mays; two brothers Roy Thompson and George Rudell Mays and two sisters, Elsie Mays Wilmer and Edna Mays O’Meara.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel P. Mays; his daughter, Linda Childress and husband, Warren Childress; grandson, William Childress and step children, Benny Brooks (Julie), Michael Brooks(Terri) and Janice Youngs(Andy) and several nieces, nephews and step grandchildren.
Mr. Mays was retired from the International Brotherhood of Teamster and Red Lines Corp. After his retirement, he ran an antique and used furniture business. He was well known for his presence at flea markets and auctions. He also enjoyed travel, hunting, and fishing. Mr. Mays was a longtime member of the Madison Heights Christian Church.
The family would like to thank the many physicians, health care professionals and Centra Hospice for their competent and kind care during his illness.
A celebration of life for Mr. Mays will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Whitten Monelison Chapel in Madison Heights with Rev. George Harris and Rev. D. Jack Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
