

He was a Navy World War II Veteran, a graduate of Lynchburg College, and a retired employee of General Electric for thirty years. In retirement he was the co-owner of T&W Convenience Store in Monroe, VA., and a loving husband and father. His parents, Mary Lee McNair Wood, and William Hocker Wood; and his sisters, Mary Lee Wood Copeland, Florence Roberta Wood Brown, and Laura Gassaway Wood Simmons, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Peggy) Taylor Wood, of 56 years; his daughter, Emily Barbour Wood and husband Kenneth M. Wood; his son Walter McNair Wood and wife Denise A.Wood; his three grandsons, Wyatt McNair Wood, Lawson Glenn Wood, and Eric Michael Duncan; he is also survived by his sisters, Rachel McFarland Wood of Texas, Jane Wood Glass, and Ann Wood Burleigh of Concord; and sister-in-law, Mary Stuart Taylor of Maryland, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family night will be at Whitten Monelison Funeral Home from 6 pm - 8 pm on Thursday, September 20, 2012.
Interment will be at New Concord Presbyterian Church on Friday, September 21, 2012, at 2 pm, with military honors by American Legion Post 16.
