

Born in Lynchburg January 15, 1963, he was the son of Jean Kelly Woody-Granger of Lynchburg and the late William Derwood Woody, Sr. For most of his career he was a civil engineer and most recently was employed by Video Aeriel Systems where he designed antennas for drones. William was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and canoe. He was also a skilled carpenter and could do anything with his hands. He was a member of Amelon United Methodist Church and most recently attended Clifford Baptist Church.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Fletcher W. and Lucy K. Woody and his maternal grandparents, William J Kelly, Sr. and Frances H. Kelly.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his step-father, Albert Granger; three daughters, Nicole Woody “Nicki” Carroll and her husband Ryan of Birmingham, AL; Shelby J. Woody of Amherst and Hannah Podrabsky and her husband Naval Petty Officer 1st Class Joseph Podrabsky of Chesapeak; one sister, Susan Woody Rosser and her husband John of Clifford; three grandchildren, Cole, Wyatt and Lillian Carroll of Birmingham; Nieces, Marine Cpl. Sarah Rosser Bostwick and her husband Marine Sgt. Jacob Bostwick of Okinawa, Japan, Emily Jean Rosser of Nashville, TN and Willow-Mina Mikles of Clifford; special friends, Mark Humphrey and Eric and Judy Pierce and his feline buddies, Fletcher, Chipper and KittyDog.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. today, February 2, 2013 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzgerald officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 12:30 p.m.
