

Daryl Edward Smith Sr., 69 of Campbells Creek, went home to be with the Lord Monday January 4, 2016 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston. Daryl was born in Charleston on December 24, 1946 to the late James Ezra & Violet Gibson Smith. He was a retired mechanic with the Kanawha County Board of Education with 15 years of service. He was a retired Army Veteran having serviced during Vietnam Era and was award the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Basic Missleman Badge and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Daryl loved and was a member of the Esta Memorial Baptist Church at Witcher. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Velta Pritt and Juanita Gibson; brother, Randy Holstein. He is survived by his wife, Jean Ann Layton Smith; son, Daryl Edward (Teresa) Smith Jr. of Charleston; grandson, Travis L. Smith and Fiance’ Amber Nicole Parsons; sisters, Shirley McDonald of Charleston and Loretta Marie McNabb of Deep Water; brothers, Hershel L. Gibson of Bomont, Michael Wayne Smith of Leon and James R. Carter of Jacksonville, FL. Funeral Services will be held Thursday January 7, 2016 at 12:30 PM at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden with Pastor Randy Wilson officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV. A visitation with family and friend will be held on Thursday January 7, from 10:30 AM until service at the funeral home.
