

Born on October 20, 1946, in Charleston, to the late George Wesley and Carrie Pauline Shannon. He was a graduate of Du Pont High School and served in the US Army stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he was employed at Union Carbide/Bayer at the Institute Plant for 38 years until retirement.
He enjoyed the outdoors with an immense love for fishing, hunting, and all things West Virginia. He especially enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in all their extra curricula activities and loved the game of golf.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul and Michael Shannon.
Surviving George are his wife of 56 years, Sophia Ann; son, Richard Wesley (Arwanna); Tina Shannon Petry (Jon); grandchildren, Kacie Cheyenne McVey (Charlie), David Blake Wentz (Allison), Matthew Richard Shannon, Noah Mason Wentz, William Gage Wentz, Colton and Hayden Petry; great-grandchildren, Kolhton Williams, Sophia Wentz, and Olivia McVey: sister, Sharon Pennington; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Hospice Care Services, including Brittani and Mary, and caregiver, Benny, for their compassionate and comforting care.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Rev. Harold Landers officiating. The burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
A visitation for family and friends will be 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
