He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul S. Lucas and Kathleen (Walker) Lucas; and siblings, Wyatt "Pude" Lucas, Joyce (Lucas) Bass, and Charles Paul Lucas.
He is survived by his brother, William "Arbie" Lucas, and sister, Drema "Kay" (Lucas) Jarrell.
Eddie is also survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Anna Louise (Adams) Lucas; and their son, Adam Paul Lucas. He was a proud grandfather to Wyatt Lucas, Walker Lucas, and Annalee Lucas. He had many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who simply called him "Uncle Ed." He also counted his friends as family and cherished those lifelong bonds deeply. Among them was Mark Taylor, whom he loved like a second son and held especially close to his heart.
Eddie had a lifelong love for dirt track racing, a passion he discovered in his teenage years alongside his older brother Pude. He especially loved sharing this passion with his nephews Rick Lucas and Rusty Bass, as well as his longtime friends Ivan Fox, Rod Evans, and Rick Edwards. His enthusiasm for the sport never faded, and it remained one of his favorite pastimes throughout his life.
He served briefly with the West Virginia National Guard before going on to spend most of his career as a print shop manager at the bank where he began with Kanawha Valley Bank, continued through its transition to One Valley Bank, and retired after its merger with BB&T.
After retiring, Eddie found joy in spending time with his three grandchildren and attending their activities. He also loved shining up his Corvette and working outside. He had a natural knack for keeping yards and flowerbeds looking their best year-round. While he took pride in the care of his own home, he considered his greatest outdoor accomplishment to be maintaining the home and property of Dr. Tom and Tori. From mowing the lawn to weeding flower beds on his hands and knees, he found deep pride and fulfillment in that work.
He was a faithful, longtime member of Mary Virginia Gospel Tabernacle, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School superintendent until the church's closure. In recent years, he called Bible Center Church his church home.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful nurses and medical teams at Thomas Memorial Hospital and Ruby Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care and kindness during Eddie's illness.
Eddie's sparkling blue eyes-often swooned over by nurses and bank tellers-along with his sweet, mischievous smile, left a lasting impression wherever he went.
