

Jo, as she was affectionately known by family and friends, was named after her paternal and maternal grandmothers. She was the second oldest child born to the late James and Virginia Harris.
Josephine was born in Charleston, WV, on September 11, 1948, on the same day as her late father’s sister, the late Frances Harris Jordan.
Josephine attended public schools in Kanawha County and graduated from DuPont High School in 1966. After graduation, she attended the Hartfield Connecticut Airline School in Hartfield, CT, were she received her wings and began her career working for National Airlines in New York City. After working in the airline industry for several years, she pursued other career paths and worked for DuPont Plant in Richmond, VA, and Reynolds Aluminum Plant in Kansas City, MO, just to name a few.
Josephine never met a stranger and had a plethora of friends. She traveled extensively throughout the United States. She always stated that no matter how long she was away from her home state of West Virginia that she knew she was coming back to live.
She came back in 1987 and attended Carver Career Center and received her certificate in Billing and Medical Coding. She obtained a job at the Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic as a Billing Accountant and retired in 2013.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, James and Virginia Harris; brother, Richard “Rick” Harris; and nephew, Derrick Shaw.
Josephine leaves to mourn her memory daughter/sister, Andrea C. Harris; sisters, Janet Shaw of Richmond, VA, and Karen Harris of St. Albans, WV; granddaughter, Renee Harris and Sheree Clayborn, both from Charleston, WV; great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Taylor, James Harris and Zavion Lomax; aunt, Revella Harris of Columbus, OH; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2025, at Levi First Missionary Baptist Church, Rand, with the Rev. James Jackson officiating. Entombment will follow the service in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.
A gathering of family and friends will be 12:00 Noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Church on Friday.
A face mask is requested, but not mandatory if attending the services.
