He was born August 27, 1940, to the late John and Anna Love Hess and retired from Peter Pan Cleaners, formerly Superior Laundry, Charleston, with 50 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Hess.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ellis Hess; sisters, Rosalie, Linda and Margaret Hess, all of Loudendale and Jeanie Hess Walker of Charleston; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2015, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastor Harold Burton Hall officiating. The burial will follow the service in Cline Hollow Cemetery on Campbells Creek.
Family and friends will gather for the visitation Sunday, 12:00 p.m. Noon, until time of service at the funeral home.
