

Richard L. Horan Sr., 78, of Shrewsbury passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston. Richard was born August 18, 1936, to the late Ernest and Velma Moles Horan. He was born and lived on Campbells Creek 73 years before moving to Shrewsbury. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Murl Mullins and Lois (John) Douglas; brother, Carlos Horan; nephew, Todd Douglas; and a niece, Gail Lynn Douglas Skiles. Before his retirement in 1996, he was a truck driver having worked for Mountain Trucking, Pfaff and Smith, Carbon Fuel, U.S. Steel, Bayless Trucking and Little Joe Trucking. He was very active in Shrewsbury Baptist Church. He loved God’s word and enjoyed sharing it with others. He was a member of the Harvest Trio, along with his wife and Gary Moore for 10 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lois Carol Braden Horan; sons, Rick (Tonya) Horan, Steve (Von) Horan; brother, Marvin (Alice) Horan; grandchildren, Melanie (Zach) Belcher, Mitch (Heather) Horan, Ralph Alan (Amy) Walker and Curry (Heather) Walker; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Belcher, Addyson and Kynlee Horan, Cody, Casey, Zoey and Liam Walker; sister-in-law, Sandy Horan Price; brother-in-law, Frank Mullins; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Richard’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastor Dave Lucas and Assistant Pastor Gary Moore officiating. The burial will follow the service at New Antioch Cemetery, Red House. A visitation with family and friends will be held Friday, February 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Special thanks to Dr. Arvind Shaw and his staff nurses, Hospice Nurses, Jo and Edie, for their friendship, love and unselfish service to our precious loved one.
